hi all,
First off, I know diddly about winches!
I’ve been told of a Superwinch husky (not sure which variant so let’s suppose it’s an ‘8’) that is for sale for a ‘sensible offer’. I have no idea what a sensible offer is but I do know that it is currently not fitted to a vehicle, has remote control and no rope with it. Apparently it works but I don’t believe I would be able to test it prior to making an offer!
There doesn’t seem to be anything comparable on the bay to get a gauge from so I turn to the collective wisdom of ye who know more than I, and humbly ask how much I should offer?

Cheers

I sold a little used Husky, complete with rope, a few years ago for £200 if that's any help.
At least if the winch is minus rope you would have the choice of re-equipping it with wire or the modern stuff, which is lighter.

With no rope you have to figure another £100+ ... If it's electric with no test you also might need a new motor or solenoid pack, or both .. from £150 ish ... If it's hydraulic I wouldn't buy it without a decent test.

They're a relatively slow winch but quite powerful, with a worm gear drive so no brake to heat up and very well made .. ;)

Bearing the above into account, I'd start at £100 with a lot of wiggle room ... condition of gears and freespool (does it freespool easily without a lot of noise for instance) means a lot .. :)

I was thinking (hoping) to get it for £100. Glad the replies sort of confirm my thoughts and thankyou for the replies!

Thanks largely to foreign competition prices of these units have reduced considerably over the years. I have an old LR approved accessories sheet which lists my aforementioned Husky costing £900 in the early 'nineties, which is around £2k today.

Well the winch idea has gone out of the window. The seller wants £250 for it which is far to high for me to go to for a used winch with a broken solenoid (he admitted to this on the phone) and no rope. I know these parts can be replaced but I could get a new tiger shark 9500 for £400 which would suit my needs just as well and be a better option on a receiver hitch mounting (don’t want a winch permanently fitted as I would want the option of using it on the front or the back).
Thanks for the replies though!
