Hi, The old Beastie has been running great with a recent French trip of 1500 miles, though occasionally it has been a little reluctant to start. When turning the key you would sometimes get nothing just a click, then try again and it bursts into life. We've had a couple of strange starter motor noises as well, nothing dramatic just a little stutter. Car failed to start this morning with no sign of life from the starter, so whizzed over to Rimmers at Lincoln and picked up a new starter. I've spent 6 hours on this job and am tearing my hair out. The motor has 2 holes to fit it to the engine, one hole is threaded and a long bolt screws in from the bellhousing for the lower fitting, the top hole is plain so must take a bolt from the front but it is impossible to see or feel, the manual doesn't call from any massive stripdown other than the heat shields. If anyone has done this job please let me know how you did it. Any advice gratefully received.

Not done this but a quick gander on an American forum says it's a biatch to fit the top bolt, you need either a 3/8 wobble extension or an extension with a U/J adaptor.

OR, removed more heat shields to facilitate getting your hand onto it.
