I've just put £30 of Esso Super Unleaded into my '95 RR 4.0 manual and cannot believe the difference!!

The car is smoother beyond belief, more powerfull, runs more evenly from tick-over all the way through and has got rid of minor hesitation when accelerating from low revs. It's great!!

Does anyone have any experience of running super full time and are there any know problems associated with this?

Many Thanks,

why would there be a problem apart from the cost?tried to run my v8 on the strong stuff as much as possible, also tried to avoid using supermarket fuel in it.It is noticable in larger injuns and highly tuned injuns like scooby boxers. Not a jot of difference in smaller standard injuns

For over 5 years now, I have avoided supermarket fuel as much as possible and run my 4.6 Vogue on BP Ultimate - result, engine at 135K runs sweet as a nut, excellent performance, no overheating etc etc. When I bought it, the dealer recommended the 97 octane premium petrol "if you can afford it" as the big V8s def prefer it. Every so often, if the 97 isn't available or convenient, I've used 95, but try to use the premium pretty much every time. Lots written about it and lots of disagreements too! All I know is it's worked for me, I have several big engined / performance cars and use premium petrol in all of them to very good effect and great performance, why, even the Smart Car garage recommend using it on a Smart 4 Two and its got a titchy 700cc engine!!

If you can afford the extra 10 pence or more per litre, then go for it!!

Dont make much diff in me freelander But in my Yamaha YZF750 it made it fly like we had another 20hp

Not just the newer V8's either, my 3.5 Classic is supposed to run on 97 octane & I usually do use S/unleaded. Can't say I notice any change in perfomance during normal driving, but the car is inclined to 'pink' when accelerating fairly hard if I use standard 95

I Was only worried that it might cause the cylinders to run hotter that's all, sounds fairly unanimous that it's ok though?

As I said earlier, the difference is vasat, far more than highly tuned sports cars I've tried it in before (200sx turbo, volvo T5, Honda Prelude Vtec et al).

Whoopeee!!!

petrol has a cooling effect unlike LPG so shouldnt run hotter.Only down side is the cost, petrol companies stick more additives and cleaners in the posh stuff so should be beneficial in the long run

i found that running ultra desil occasionaly helped my car clean some of the crap of the injectors. some small bost to power but ultimatly it was just more efficent as the engine didnt work as hard

It suits some engines better than others. Best way to avoid the placebo effect is to get someone else to fill your car one week and not tell you which petrol they have used! Same again the next week. Decide which goes/ runs/ sounds better then get them to tell you which was which and go from there. Not just a couple of gallons, though, give it enough to allow it to have an effect.

A personal experience I had with it was one day when I filled an XV Yamaha with it when it went on reserve and it immediately began to stutter. In the CBR Honda it revved more freely, etc etc.

I found that my HI PO BMW engines run much better on the shell fuel , even the normal grade, and really well on the super stuff.

The classic drinks too much so I never put super in that!
