hi all,

so after managing to remove the front sunroof from my Disco 2 and replacing the seal and drains (which were both cracked) and then applying liberal amounts of silicone to stop future leaks there still seems to be a leak from "somewhere" on the passenger side of the sunroof thats letting water down the passenger A-pillar and soaking the headlining in the top left hand corner.

before I take out the headliner again and start to try and figure out where and how the water is still getting through does anyone have any ideas as to where else the water may be getting in? Its not the drain or tubes but i'm baffled and getting frustrated with it now!

Also while on the topic of the headliner some of the screws to hold in the top plastic tray (thingy!) were a pig to get back in and wouldn't engage properly, is it possibly to replace the fittings that the screws fix in to? May as well try and do that if i have to remove the headliner again!

oh, sunroof is auto if that helps/makes any difference!

thanks in advance

I don't think that silicone sealer is really the best way to treat a leaking sunroof.

Most owners would probably recommend "Sikaflex" or "Tiger seal".

If you park with the front facing down hill it could also be your rear sunroof drain tubes as it was on mine. I sealed the front SR and refitted the headliner only to still have an occasional leak. I removed the HL again and left it out for a few weeks then eventually noticed one of the rear tubes leaking into the boot area. With the HL fitting it runs off into the cant rail and down to the front when it is parked down hill or into the boot sides if parked uphill.

Just out of interest, why not? the silicone is around the drains in the corner of the sunroof tray as the metal replacements do not seat 100% and this was what was supplied with the kit - i'm sure I could use something else in its place (but didn't know about that) so cant see that it'll make too much of a difference - time will tell i guess

ah ok, that's worth checking out - thanks

Did you have any issue re-fixing the screws in the plastic tray above the dash? mine were a pig to refit and at least 2 of them didnt fit correctly

check the widscreen seal in the corner where it meets the roof gutter. here's a pic of my old D2 (drivers side) which had this issue. sealed the hole and the leak stopped.

Just to be clear, you used sealant around the entire flange of the sunroof where it sits on the vehicle roof ?? Not just at the corners where the drain tubes are.??
