Hi all.

Today I decided to reseal the sunroofs on my discovery TD5. Head lining out, alarm sensors off, I didn't disconnect the battery. Now all I get when I lock the car is the alarm going off.

Is there a reset procedure for the alarm.

Thanks

If correctly means put the one back in the rear that came from the rear and the one in the front that came from the front. Wires connect as they came out then yes I've put them back properly. Just confused as to why this would happen and how to fix it.

Alarm sets. Red dash light flashes as usual, rapidly for a short period of time then every two seconds thereafter. Fob locks and unlocks car as normal.

Just unplug the sensors and set the alarm if your issue goes away u know that the sensor/s is faulty.

Think I'll try that tomorrow. Would they just blow/malfunction like that just because I disconnected them sorted sunroifs and plugged them back up? How odd.....

Not normally and the plug-socket is keyed so only one way to reconnect.

But as always good electrical practice is to remove the power supply by disconnecting the vehicles battery or even removing the systems fuse when unplugging connectors, or any other electrical work for that matter.

Update.....
Now I'm confused........

Left the car unlocked last night, went out to it this morning and locked it with the fob, half an hour later all is well, so unlocked it with the fob, and moved the car and locked it with the fob again, 30 seconds later the alarm goes off.

Unlocked car, started car up, switched car off, locked with key. All good.
An hour later, unlocked with the fob, disconnected both sensors and locked with the fob again all good.

Are you with me so far.....

Connected rear sensor only, all good, no alarm activation after half an hour, so disconnected the rear sensor, and connected the front sensor and again after half an hour all good no activation. Connected both sensors, locked with fob and 20 mins later all no alarm activation. All resolved, or so I thought..

Drove the car about 3 miles, locked the car with the fob, 6 minutes later the alarm goes off. Drove five miles locked the car with the fob and immeNow I'm confused........

Immediately it goes off.

Are they physically installed correctly (same as they came out) it sounds like they are interfering with each other

I take it you disconnect the car's main battery when you are doing all this disconnecting and reconnecting?

If you read your owners handbook you will see there is a difference between locking and unlocking with the key or the fob.

Physically installed as they came out.

Yes this time and on each connection and disconnection I took the positive battery terminal off.

The one bit that baffles with me is after driving it a short distance (couple of miles) locked with fob and it didn't go off for 6 minutes, but then drove it further and it went off immediately.

Somebody from land rover has said that the may need recoding. Recoding???? Really???

Could it be that u have inadvertly touched the receiver above the headlining? therefore the alarm is not un-setting/setting via the remote every time, but very strange what ever is happening.
Discos ultra-sonic detectors don't need re coding, nor do any others in this world.

Can't see how I could of touched the receiver, in all honesty I didn't know there was an additional receiver?

May have to get it plugged up to some sort of land rover computer.

Update again

Spoke to land rover today, sensors are not coded or programmed to the car and its nothing they've come across before. If I take it in to them they can plug it up and tell me what the fault is, but won't be able to pinpoint it exactly without removing the roof lining. So I asked how much all this will cost!!!!
Without any parts I'll be looking at 6 hours labour minimum at £135 an hour plus VAT. I don't think so. Lol

Ouch.

My garage does it for £40 hour.

Smile nicely and they plug it in for nothing ;)

Now even more baffled. Quiet night at work, no neighbours to disturb, so it's time to think and try.........

Disconnected rear sensor, sat in car, set alarm via fob. Sat very still for about 2 minutes. Dash light blinking every 2 seconds and I wave my arms around like a demented fly, alarm didn't activate. Unlocked car with fob, reconnected rear sensor, sat patiently waiting for the 2 second blinking then waved again as before, alarm activated.

Now for the more baffling thing. Got out the car set alarm with the fob and the alarm hasn't gone off in 40 mins.

Just unlocked car. Got in. Locked and alarmed with fob. Waited for the 2 second flash, waved alarms, alarm went off. Started car and moved it, got out locked alarmed with fob and alarm not gone off.

Simple questions here.
Is the alarm working?
Why have I had these problems?
What caused it?

All night my car sat with the alarm set via the fob. Unlock the car and drive home 18 miles. Lock the car with the fob, just over 30 mins and the alarm goes off. Why why why.
