Just a couple of short videos from a trial day local to me .. The video doesnt really show the length of the course or the steepness of the inclines but the old long wheelbase managed the terrain like a champ. The course was a bit tight in places and this was the 109s Achilles heal Well that and a lack of power steering. My poor body was aching for a week .. Got the bug now though and on the hunt for a swb project. Found one local just need to seal a deal ..

Great pics and good to see a series Landy in its element! I used to do a bit of trialling in my old series 3 SWB back in the mid 90’s before life got in the way. One day, I’ll get back to it. But definitely get yourself another SWB and a set of mud tyres (can’t beat Firestone SAT’s for looks and performance on a series Landy… ).

Was a good day, a bit windy but it was dry ish .. we did a bit more trialling in a more wild terrain later in the day , The old bus still stuggled with the tight gates but the terrainitself was no problem .. Unfortunately since then the landy has hardly turned a wheel . BUT I did sell it ,only to experience it jumping out of reverse before we sealed the deal.. so I pulled back and offered to fix it before it goes .. I have a short wheelbase purchase up my sleeve but I have to get the cash in from the sale of this one before I can seal that deal .. Its all go .

Will you rebuild the box, may I ask?

If I need to,I will , but if its a simple fix such as the main shaft nut come loose ,then other that re tightening the nut or any other in place fixes that it might be, I will leave it alone . The good thing is I have driven the vehicle a fair bit in different situations so I know that there were no graunching or rattling sounds from the box which might indicate a terminal failure .This was sudden and only under load , and since I fitted an overdrive which required the removal and refitting of the mainshaft nut it could be that its not been tightened to speck or the reused lock washer has failed ..It could be that simple, I haven't had time to look yet ..

I find myself using the blue thread lock on all these nuts that could rattle loose.
Even used it on the UJ lock nuts for the prop after having to remove new ones to fix the transfer box.
I would love an overdrive, but they're so expensive. I'm on the original 6.00-16 extra traction tyres, but we only trundle along at 40.

Will keep you posted .The fella thats buing it is still 100% committed this time around .He knows the score with the box and that I am going to fix it one way or the other so its all good .. Fingers crossed for the easy repair ..

I was away in the camper van the other day neat Hatton of Fintray close to Dyce, nit sure if that's close to you , any way I popped along to see a landy for sale on the outskirts of Stonehaven .. was a decent looking landy , just keeping an eye on the finances to see If I can afford it . while passing through Hatton of Fintray, I hit the mother of all speed humps .These things were ridiculous , Hit it about 20 mph and the front end got airborne . when the back wheels hit the take off ramp there was an almighty bang and I thought the torsion bar had broke .. When I stopped the rear left side of the van was pretty much on the deck so there was a definite problem .. Had to get recovered to home . and when driving the van into the drive the right side decided to go BANG as well.. Got around to taking a look the following day and low and behold the torsion bars were fine but the same could not be said of the aftermarket adjustable spring plates .. total failure of the weld. A full radial fracture on both parts .. They have done the job for 6 years and I guess you arent supposed to use a sleeping policeman as a take off ramp .but there are plenty pot holes that could have done the same damage ..

Just another reason the have an old landy for the main roads these days as well as any off road activity

Yes the roads are full of holes, but there's not much of a week's there! Doesn't look like much penetration, but I'm Shure you can weeks them up.
I'm in Peterculter, so you must have driven close by lol.

Drove straight through Peterculter .. probably passed your door we were doing all the back roads to Cruden bay trying to keep the speed and the oil temp down on the old air cooled motor , It was a boiling hot day on Thursday ..

It certainly was, we were out in the secret garden making a bodger's shave horse.

Thats totally undercut on the welding... It's never good when the weld is lower than the parent metal level!! If they had been chamfered and then filled back up with weld there would have been more hold on the plate and boss economic fabrication
