Whilst we were on holiday last week in Yorkshire, during some extremely hot weather, I went to close the o/s read window and then was an almighty bang. Thought one of the locals had hefted a brick at us, couldn't see anything wrong. Arriving back at our caravan site, I again went to close the rear window and, yes you might have guessed it, it will not now raise the window. I can drag the window up to within 2 inches of the top, and the electrics will lower, but not raise.

I have no idea what broke, any info input would be welcomed. On a limited budget I would like to fix it myself.

I have not got a Haynes Manual for the car, have never needed it. In the 7 years that I have owned the car, this is the first repair that has been needed. It has been as good as any car that I have owned.

Looking at the interior of the rear door I can't see how the trim is removed...is it just levered off?

Can someone suggest where I might find some diagrams to show how the trim is removed?

I really do need some help...hope that doesn't sound too pathetic.

Hi Norman,
Seven years of good motoring - you's been lucky and must have a good 'un.
Google 'green oval' & look for the 'rave' for the F'lander and down load it - it's free but big.
It has all of the mechanical & electrical, descriptions and diagrams you will probably ever need.
Failure of rear window mechs seems quite common and there are a few good threads on here showing how to fix it and where to get the best/good parts from. Try a search with few words.

Hi Norman, welcome to the forum.

sounds like one of the cables on the rear window regulator has snapped. To remove the trim, get on your hands and knees, and look up at the bottom of the trim, there will be 4 or 5 screws. take them out (philips) then it is held on by trim clips, just get hold of the bottom and pull towards you. It will then come off. Remove the plastic sheet behind and you should be able to see the cables.

then do a search as its been covered lots, from buying a new regulator assembly, if you're rich, through repair kits, to buying a brake cable from halfords and filing the nipple down to make it fit.

Yes, it is a good one...71000 miles and just had to replace the rear tyres, fronts still have some mileage left.

Many thanks for the advice, will follow up the search's later today. The advice to 'get down on your knees' ect, sounded ok but some of you have questioned it. Should I not do that, or is it just not that easy??????

The cables busted.
20 Quid for a repair kit on ebay should sort it.

If you're into pulling bottoms whilst on ya knees, that's fine too. :D

It's no big deal removing the door trim.
Remove the inner trim of the door handle by prising with a screwdriver or knife. Remove the two screws holding the handle in place.

Have a good look at the door trim and remove any visible screws.

Now get on ya knees....give the bottom (of the door trim) a good yank and it should come free of the retaining clips. Pull toward you, and upward over the door locking plungers and the trim is off.

A few more screws and the regulator can be eased out of the door panel.

Replace the cables, rebuild in reverse order....and sorted.
 
I found a Landrover dealer in Wyndmondham who supplied the parts at a good price and did the job myself.

But!!!!!!! would you believe it, now the rear window in the tailgate is playing up. I just cannot believe it myself!

When I squeeze the rear door handle it does not release the lock, but the glass slides down in time with the squeeze'ing of the door handle.

Trying to raise the glass from the dashboard switch, only raises the glass slightly, in stops and starts. I have coaxed it into the fully closed position, almost scared to use the tailgate in case I cannot get it to close.

Has my good luck with this car started to run out...I hope not.

have you tried recalibrating the rear window ?

disconnect and reconnect the battery, window should drop all the way. turn ignition on, press up button until window is closed, should beep and stop, job done.

I have given it a go.

Upon disconnecting the battery, the window did not go down.

I then lowered it, disconnected the battery.

The window now goes up 2 thirds and beeps.

Cannot get to go to the top.

Any ideas???????????
