Hi,
I have posted this here as it probably applies to quite a range of engines.
I have read about replacing the T seals with RTV, which appeals to me after struggling to fit cork ones on a 2.25 years ago (horrible memories!!)
My question is how?
After degreasing everything, do I refit the block then squeeze the sealant down the sump end of the slot until it shows at the other end?
My engine (300tdi) is currently on an engine stand so I will turn it over to do the sump and T seals but I havent actually seen the set up on the engine first hand yet.......

Cheers,
Rich

I did it by filling the slots then fitting the block. Wait for it to cure then cut away excess.

(Mind you I found the cork seals reasonably easy with two feeler gauge blades)

Cheers!
I had imagined that the sealant would scrape out of the slots as the block was fitted. If thats not the case then I will try it that way!:)

ive done all engine builds on lannys this way since the 90s and never had a leak ,,,well from t gaskets ,,,,,,,i build block up then squirt rtv down sump slots look for bead out main to block exit wipe of excess ,happy days

Right, I have my 300tdi engine upside down, sump off main off, on a stand, attached by the flywheel housing. Crank seal is still attached to the block and I cant remove it because the flywheel is in the way.
I dont have a hoist to remove the engine from the stand to strip the back end down!
My question is will squirting rtv down the slot still fill the slot sufficiently with the rear section of the slot blocked by the crank seal flange?
If so, great, I can crack on with building the engine up ready ro fit!
Cheers
Rich
