Hi again, im after some advice from those in the know! its a stupid question but i cant seem to find the info im looking for anywhere! here goes, on the top of the engine (1980? Series 3 diesel ex mod) is the engine breather, i have oil spraying out of it covering the engine! i take it that this is bad, it has no hose on it which in some of the pictures ive looked at they have. can anyone help me as to what needs to be done to put it right? i will try and get some pics up but my computer skills are nearly as good as my mechanical ones? thanks in advance for any tips/ help its much appreciated. only had it since the weekend and im a landy virgin! lol, cheers dan.:eek:
 
I have a breather off of my 200tdi same as u a Landy virgin but asked a specialist my dad knows and he told me to blank it off
 
the hose should go from that thing to the air intake fannymold as it does on mine

tis the best pic i can find of it but yer get the jist of it :D:D:D

 
Doesn't say it's a 200, if it's 1980 then it's more likely a 2.5na; in which case the hose should run to the inlet manifold.
Is there an empty spigot or blanking plug on the manifold?
Also the problem is made worse by overfilling with oil
 
hi thanks everyone, i think its a 2286 engine. will go and see if i can find a hose and copy the pic! i dont think its over filled with oil, if anything the dipsticks reading low! drove it 175 miles back from wales on saturday, drove well just noticed lots of oil on floor when its parked. i know they are all supposed to leak but it seems to be from breather, nowhere else thank f#uck! again cheers for the input everyone! dan.:D
 
Just be aware the engine sump plugs weap on most, plus there is a zillion and one places that EP90 can leak from and cover your nice shiny driveway:5bpuke:.
My missus wasn't happy with this situation. :mil7:

Like I found out from someone on here, the best solution is a piece of ply under the landy. :D

So don't get upset if fixing the breather doesn't fix the oil leak.:5bsifone:

Best advice I was given was:
If there is no oil under it, there's no oil in it.

as for the oil under it thats just the faithful old dog marking its territory on yer driveway :D:D

theres another saying that rather than mess about with funnels and things just pour the fresh oil all over the top of the engine and itll find its own way back in :smokin::smokin:
 
Update! Looking at the pic I can see where the pipe needs to go into the intake, but on mine there's already a pipe there that goes back across the engine bay into what looks like the brake master slave thing above the steering column. It's a big circular drum about 6 inches a cross? Any ideas as I'm really confused.com thanks again! Dan.
 
That is where your problem is. Someone has fitted a brake servo to your landy, and used the intake manifold spigot to provide the vacuum for the servo. One thing you may be able to do is to rig a way of connecting the breather pipe directly into the air intake hose.
 
where are you in the country? there will be someone around locally who will let you have a butchers at their motor. My series 3 vents from the rocker (top of engine) breather into the inlet manifold there should be two positions on the manifold to connect pipes the brake vacuum pipe that you have spoken about and one for the breather.
If it is pumping a lot of crap up the top it could be crankcase pressure and the engine may need some attention. start by undoing the 7/16 a/f screw in the side of the breather cap on the rocker cover , remove the cap and wash it in petrol or paraffin the see how you go with a pipe connected to inlet manifold.
 
I'm in winslow in bucks! I think having a good look at another series would be really helpfull if there is anybody local? So in the short term I should leave the brake hose connected and try and connect the breather directly into the air intake hose! You lot are all top chaps and have been most helpfull. Dan
 
Have you got a picture of your manifold and the top end of your engine?

We could then talk you through sorting it out ...
