Yeah. I'm not bothered about how much fuel it uses generally speaking, unless it starts getting ridiculous ofcourse, but it's interesting to know. My grandad is very interested, he was the one who suggested it and he filled up my tank :D
You sure he's not fiddled about with a gallon can when you werent looking? :D

My Grandad has a pace maker fitted and when I sit him over the battery in the passenger seat of my 300tdi I get an extra 10% mpg.... his eyes roll slightly but I keep telling him he is worth it.
Grandads are a good optional extra providing they are earthed correctly... :D

When i picked mine up this week, i put 26 litres in her which filled it right up ( diesel floating at the top of the tube + half a tank already ) , then drove 140 miles home on the M5 at apprx 65 all the way.

Next day i filled her back up using 27 litres, so the journey used (4.5 litres to the gallon apprx ) just under 6 gallons.

If my maths is right, that's about 23MPG for a 2.5TD which isn't too bad, i was expecting less...

NOT Bad when ford quote 35 mpg for a 2.0 litre fukus c max. which in real life will be about 28 mpg. people always amazed at what they can do. they seem to think they all down in single figures

Yep, my TD was around the 22mpg mark in normal use (i.e. not on a long run). Haven't worked out the TDI yet - just hope it's significantly better!

well done POS proves that the work that you have done on it recently was all worhwhile. My 110 /300tdi/disco tranny and 235/85 Cooper STT gives me 30mpg on the trip from Merseyside to here in Portugal - always with full roof rack and normally about 3 tons extra weight with Ifor trailer and whats loaded in the back, which always surprises me as there are some very long steep climbs on the way. Without that load on board it returns 35mpg running around here - running 75% veg

BPM just checking its not my suspension.......my cooper stt's are ****e going round corners in the wet......do you have the same issue ?

I've just changed the tyres on my 110 from the noisy rough horrible but hard wearing Deestone 7.50/16 to some 235 Kumho M/T and I worked out it's saving me at least 10 to 15 quid in 200 miles, in spite of the fact that I tend to go faster now that I can hear myself think at over 30mph. It's great. I can hear all the wind noise now.
Rick
PS Good set of off road tyres anyone??

have no trouble in the wet or dry with the cooper stt's, my spare set are on Robke's disco down here and he also has no problems with them, Only problem we have with them here is the wear rate as the tarmac that we sometimes drive on has granite mixed in and is very hard on tyres.

ello Stig! ;)

Just to throw another figure into the mix - my 300Tdi 110's been averaging ~26mpg on the trip to and from work each day, and not driving particularly efficiently either ;-) (South-London traffic + sometimes the wrong side of 70) and there's a bit of a weight in the back with tools and jacks, not a huge amount but not empty. (Running on BFG A/Ts).

More stats.... 1997, 110 300tdi CSW on 265/75 r16 Enduro Runway. My place to Billing and back, nearly all motorway, couple of short holdups, I kept it around 60mph. 308 miles, refilled to the neck 42.77ltrs = 9.04 gallon..... 32.76mpg. Thats using the sat nav for miles.
Thats the same mpg as when I went to Driffield....

I got a round trip to do this weekend to Brum n back, apprx 360 miles so gonna fill her right up at the start and see what i get from the ol' 2.5TD with AC grabbers on her.

my 90 used to get 25ish i think.

My RR over here.. .. 15mpg

my 110 back home .... 12-13mpg

I should add.... both the 110 and the Rangie have a roof rack. 110 is on standard suspension and 285/75 R16 mud terrains. Rangie has a 2inch lift and is sitting on 265/70 R16 muddies.

I've been running 100% bio diesel for the last few weeks. Disregarding the first couple of fills to get the proportion of petrodiesel right down, I was getting 26-28mpg in my '86 90 with a 200tdi. Tyres are oldish Colway 235/85x16 ATs, 32 front, 35 rear. That mileage was a combination of motorway at around 50mph, and some twisty A-roads at 40 or so. Then I switched back to petrodiesel, and got 36mpg, same A-road driving, but 55-60 on the motorway.

Once the prices were compared (92p for bio, £1.22 for petro), the cost is virtually the same at 15p per mile. The difference is that the motor feels more powerful with petrodiesel - it was easier to get up a bit of speed to pass lorries, for example. That, and the fact that the nearest bio place to me is a 60-odd mile round trip, means that petrodiesel is the better option.
