Hi guys', i have a 1996 3.9 Disco which ,when cold, has a stumble/ hesitation when the acceleretor is pressed down slightly. It goes away once a little heat has got into the engine. It's annoying more than anything. A local Land Rover dealer has reset the air flow meter and suggested "live with it". Any ideas?
Cheers.

Not sure about this may help, but on most petrol cars (I've been diesel for a few years now...) there is a pipe (aluminium) from the exaust manifold to the air intake..? used to kill my Polo when it was removed....

that sounds like a timing issue to me, but if irs electronic then that wouldn't be the case could be a duff lead or plug that works fine once warm and expanded but struggles when cold;)

Thanks' for your replies, it's had new plugs, cap, rotor and new Magnecor leads and the session on the dealers "text book" system showed no faults ! I guess i'll live with it for now. Thanks again. DD

Try clamping off the air bypass hose at the back of the plenum chamber, with the engine hot and all loads off,(in neutral,A/C off etc) it should still idle at 450-500 rpm. This is the base idle setting which has an effect on the slow running qualities of the engine.(Keeps the idle stepper motor in its correct range of operation to respond to demands of load or throttle position)
If the motor stalls when you clamp the pipe off you adjust the base idle using the screw on the throttle body under a little alloy core plug close to the throttle butterfly shaft, core plug is about 12mm in dia - dig it out with a hammer and sharp screwdriver if its still there.
This is not a cure all - it is another piece of the set towards making a v8 run as it should.Hope it helps
