Hi people
The passenger door on my defender is stuck,i cant open it with a key or via the inside mech.
The release handle still seems to operate the pop up catch.
I have released as much of the door card as i can,and have reached inside and pulled the door relaease
The door will still not open ,so i am asuming that the lock itself must be jammed
but i cant get access as i cant remove the door card, any ideas apart from butchering the door card?

I once had to resort to cutting the latch pin that’s fixed to the door pillar. It wouldn’t open for love nor money but I can’t remember if I used a thin grinding disc or a reciprocating saw. Once the door was open I managed to butcher the rest of it off and fitted a new door mechanism and pin

Guessing the plastic on the back of the handle has broken where the wire attaches to it.
Lift the handle, and there may be a screw underneath, or some hold in with a spring clip.
Undo the screw and you should be able to remove the surround and handle, don't worry if you break them, they are cheap.
If you can get them out, you can probably use another piece of wire to pull the inside wire up, and pull it with pliers.

Undo the hinge bolts and take the door off that way?

it would still be held by the locking mechanism though. My mechanism failed completely and nothing would open the door which is why I had to cut the pin off

The key may open the locking mechanism, and if it doesn't, the lift latch on the inside is pretty flimsy too.

It may be this doesn't work on later vehicles, they tried to improve security over time. But on pre 1990 odd, it works well.
