Urgent stuck in Egypt. Thought we had a faulty turbo as engine suddenly starts to rev uncontrolably. Checking further it seems diesel is getting into the turbo via the vacuum pipe from the deisel pump and dripping into the inlet maanifold. Any ideas please.

Whereabouts in Egypt are you? I have friends who travel around North Africa on a regular basis.
 
Its a 110 turbo deisel 1990 with128000 on the clock.
We have just put another turbo on as the engine would occasionally rev very high. We took the pipe off to the inlet manifold and thought oil was dripping into the inlet manifold.
After fitting the new turbo I was just checking again and still see dripping oil but discovered that it is Deisel and not oil.
I assume that it is coming up the vacuum pipe from the deisel pump but no idea why. We are in Cairo at present.
 
Another question, can i discconnect the vacuum pipe from the turbo and drive it like that with no adverse effects apart from power loss.
 
You could use a pipe clamp on the hose from the turbo to the fuel pump, if you disconnect the hose you would have a boost leak between the turbo and wastegate - and the wastegate wouldn't work :eek:

The pipe from the turbo to fuel pump increases the fuel delivered to the engine with increasing boost pressure. Looks like a fuel injection pump problem if you are getting fuel through that pipe to the turbo.

Will clamping the pipe between the turbo and the fuel pump cause any long term damage to the turbo? How far can I drive it as spares are hard to come by here? Someone said it could be a split diaphram at the fuel pump end of the pipe. Nothing in the manuel. If so is it easy to change?
Is it a specialist job and will the pump need recalibrating or something like that? Many thanks for your help. Feeling desperate.
 
You won't damage the turbo by clamping the pipe to the fuel pump - if you disconnect the pipe you will!!! Clamp it at the end where it goes into the fuel pump it should stop the fuel getting to the turbo. It does sound like a split in the diaphragm but you could do with a replacement pump fitting. Replacing the pump is your best option.

it wont hurt the turbo ,fuel in boost pipe is a pump issue, diaphragm is split so boost wouldnt have worked while it has been ie down on power if you cant get new diaphragm and fix it do so, if not clamp pipe and run as is till you can power will be down but driveable

Thanks everyone, took the casing off the injector pump and found the diaphram is shot to pieces, now waiting for a replacement from the UK.
Thank you to Mandy, havn't tried your Mechanic in Cairo yet due to the holidays here. Will let you know how it goes.
