Watching with interest. New hubs and sensors are going on my front axle tomorrow after I have had a similar problem following damage whilst replacing a track rod end! Hoping this cures problem…

hopefully in my case all it was a slightly unplugged sensor! if it is, nanocom through me off course as it was signalling the wrong hub, but anyway... good thing i did not damage the old hub and sensor :D

So it was too good to be true and lights came back on immediately. I tried to unplug the hub connector however noticed that if it touched an earth point, there were a lot of sparks. I dont have my multimeter with me but is there supposed to be a live 12v there (Ignition was off)?

I could have bet they would based on what you said before about slightly unplugged connector while you had good live stationary readings.

It's not supoosed to be any live with ignition off at the ABS sensor only 5V on one wire and between 2 - 2.3V on the other with ignition on... though to be sure wait 90 minutes after the ignition was off as the SLABS o go competlely to sleep then see again if you have sparks or not just dont open any door in this time... if you still get sparks then don't fuss no more just replace the ECU to rule it out and if after that it's still the same means there is a short circuit to live somewhere.

The sparks that i saw where from more than 5v for sure! Will wait for the new ecu at this point
 
That's the best thing to do cos the ECU is very suspect now
thanks a lot, i will keep you posted of the progress! tomorrow i will have some time to investigate a bit further, especially the voltage!

what im still curious is that the lights come on randomly, almost always go off after i switch the car off and on , the will reset, also noticed that the hill decent does not light up most of the time. only the hand brake light, TC and ABS
 
so its been a few days of 3-amigos free driving. the resolution? i sprayed a bit of contact cleaner into the female plugs of the abs sensors and left it over night to work. Same ecu, same sensor! sometimes the solution is easier that we think o_O Long term i would like to replace the plugs though, anyone know if these are readily available please?

I'm glad for you but this doesnt explain at all those sparks you mentioned in a previous post :rolleyes: ... as about those plugs, they are not available as spares
 
I tested the output of the rhs and its the expected 5v, i have no idea where the sparks came from. As you know driver side is not easily accessible and i have an accessory fusebox. From what im seeing there are no exposed wires that could have generated the spark but i wasnt really seeing what i was doing 😅
 
just a little update on this, i have not technically fully resolved this as I still get 3 amigos come up randomly every few weeks. im wondering if the marks on the abs sensors are 'normal' though. this is from a functioning sensor. also i have always installed hubs which come with the abs sensor, so i expect it to be properly fitted and should not require any shims? the hubs i install are Britpart with the G part number.

The sensor is not supposed to touch the reluctor ring that's a fact... there must be a small air gap just enough to be no contact between them
yeah, doesnt look right, these are relatively new hubs , why would it touch and is it something that i can fix? also apart from genuine hubs, are there any hubs which are better than the britpart oem ones? cant seem to find genuine ones anymore and they were about 1000eur last time i saw them!

There is a huge variety. I fitted Borg and Beck many years ago and didnt have any problems... steer clear of britpart when you can find other brands... i dont see the o-ring in that picture
 
yes i know there is some variety but no idea on which ones are any good :D i always though the Britpart with the G are decent but i have my doubts now.
 
I used the Optimal ones from Autodoc on mine (had a noisy bearing but with no play). That was 3 1/2 years ago & it's been fine since.
