Hi,
I am new to the site and have a request for some info. I have a 1999 Freelander 2.0 XE di.

When the engine is warm, it smells very strongly of oil/diesel. It still smells when it is cold but not as strongly.

You can smell it from about 5 paces away. I have only recently bought the car, and thought it might just need a service. Just had it serviced - still smells!

Any thoughts/cures welcomed.

Matt

The first thing I'd be checking is the leak off pipes on the injectors.

Thanks guys - I have checked numerous times and there is absolutely no evidence of leakage on the floor though. Surely a leak would find its way onto the ground?

not if it can sit in a pool on top of the engine and/or evaporate away.
