hiya all,

just wondering if any of you chaps know wtf is going on with my wagon.
'T' plate TD5 disco

had a previous problem with my pas a while back - blocked filter thats ' pressed into the bottom of the pas resevoir, so after clearing the filter for a second time, and refilling, I'm getting a strange problem while turning left only !, and it doesn't do it all the time.

basically, if i'm coming up to a 90 left hand corner, change down, and just turn the corner with no gas on - the steering goes SOLID for a second or two - it never does it if i turn a bend and have gas on tho !?!

just had a quick search - couldn't find anything tho,

any ideas ?

You sure you have no air bubbles/locks in your steering fluid? No kinked pipes etc.

Sorry mate but my knowledge of the td5 is limited. (never done any work on one besides normal maintenence etc)

no, no air bubbles, no kinked pipes, nothing looking untoward - got flow in and out of resevoir,
it only does it when it's on the move !, and not all the time - but there are some predictable corners.
found a couple of posts - tyre size, steering damper, wheel rub etc, etc,

covered in sand mate ;)

hiya burton,

i got standard disco wheels , i think they are 17"'s tho not sure - the missus has got it at the mo !
thinking of checking all steering joints, check the damper, check wheel size, ?!?
any ideas

steve

I would run a steering system bleed if I were you.
Buy the book:

At step 4 I would use a clear hose on the bleed screw so I could see better what's happening there. Repeat step 5 (turning the wheels from 1 full lock to another) until at least 1/2 liter of fluid comes out (keep the level in tank topped up in the process).

Thanks a million for that Cipx,
I'll get some hose, and I'll have a go - nice one fella !

Regards,
Steve

p.s. did you know about the 'pressed' in filter in the bottom of the PAS/ACE resevoir - sneaky buggers !
