Check your drains. Make sure they are clean. If you have a sunroof make sure those are clean. Check your window seals to see if water is getting in from there.

What screen do you have? Is it the Nav screen or just a radio? If it is the Nav screen the LCD may be at end of life. You can replace just the screen.

But first get the thing running. I responded to your other post.

If you get the vehicle running I will go to my 04 and look for the plug - although I assume yours is RHD while mine is LHD. Maybe check the other side for a similar plug and that would explain it.

Sorry to hijack the thread but do you mean the whole unit that moves out of the way to put cassette in? If so do you have any idea of a part number or name to search for. My units in boot work, I just have a blank screen, that I can see light come on but no screen display.
Sorry again for the hijack.

Gold Rover - post a pic of what you are looking for so we are on the same page.

As far as the plugs - if you are happy with the settings I may just leave them unplugged. I have heard the movements go bad and then you are in trouble.

@kg74 this is the unit I am speaking about. Everything works but the display has gone. I know it's a common fault and I have tried all the 'fixes' with no joy.

Apologies again for the hijack.

I have a failing unit also, but it is still 95% workable - but apparently once they start to bleed they go quick. Yours appears to be flat dead which could be just the inverter.

I have sourced most of the information from looking at the same unit utilized in the X5 - which is the same as the RR. Do a search for the X5 LCD GPS repair and you will find considerable information and videos.

See here re repairs: http://www.fiesta-tech.co.uk/uploads/3/1/3/0/3130528/bmw_sat_nav_replacement.pdf

(This is UK based - maybe they can provide additional info if needed) I recall seeing a place in the UK that can source the screen.

Otherwise type in YIK500030 which is suppose to be the RR part number. The screen is made by Sharp and prices range from $120-170 USD from eBay sellers out of China and the USA. The relevant part number is LQ065T9BR51U or LQ065T9BR53.

@kg74 I've been trawling ebay since seeing your post but most units seem to have "a few pixels missing". I will look at the links you've put up. Many thanks, as until your post I wasn't sure that part could be taken off and replaced.
I'll now stop hijacking :)
