Hi,

I changed the top coolant pipe on my D2 TD5 yesterday . The one from the water pump that leads off to the top of rad / heater pipe / down to the thermostat.
number 3 in the link. http://allbrit.de/UNI.cfm?PAGE=819102&SPRACHE=EN

When I was cleaning up I picked up the old pipe and found the following part in the box I had placed the old pipe when I took it off.

Any ideas? it looks like a restrictor, but I am not sure where it goes / came from?

Cheers

Had one on my rad, I think its to stop the now redundant pipe stub on the rad from chewing into the hose that runs very close to it.
The part you have should be fitted over the stub that sticks out.
I lost mine, so I fitted a hose clamp around the hose where it touched the stub, this should protect it.

This may help?

Thanks for that, But,

Is the fuel cooler blank mod as mentioned above on the drivers side of the radiator? at the bottom.

The pipe i replaced, number 3 in the above link , is on the right hand side. Does not go near the bottom drivers side of the radiator.

Cheers

Hi Yes the pipe on my 2004 D2 is blank, its the one at the bottom right (startboard!) side.
Its blanked as mine has never had the EGR cooler and the feed into the oil cooler is also blanked off.

Hi @markomate2 ,

Thanks, but as I said above, that is not the same pipe as what I am asking about. If you look at the link on the OP.

Cheers anyway.

Hi Sorry I just re-read your first post!
Yes a strange one! AFAIK that part should not have been inside any pipes!!!
Buts def the same as the part I found and then lost, on mine!

@markomate2

was yours metal? this one is a resin of some sort. Looking at the rad it is not the same fitting as at the lower starboard side of the rad.

The only place i could see this coming from is either the connection to the large top of Radiator port side connection or the down t joint that goes to the thermostat.

I have looked on all the parts lists and cannot see it.

Cheers

I think it was non metallic, but the OCD part of me now means I have to find it again, its somewhere in my parts bin....Thanks:)
Im pretty certain mine came of the redundant hose end at the bottom right of the rad.

I know what you are saying, When I picked up the old pipe and this "extra" was sat on my tool box..........:oops::oops:

Not worried about it, just hate to not have an answer, lol.

As I was never near the area you say yours came from, and where I found it, was not somewhere it could have been knocked off and fell to by accident, then it has to have come from the pipe I removed............o_O, I just do not know where................. It may be the new pipe has this fitted internally somewhere as a strengthener. I am not about to remove it to see. :D

Cheers.

I recently changed the same hose on my D2 Td5 as it had chafed on the power steering hose. It didn't have this piece on the old original one or the new one....
