Hi All,

today started the Landie and after starting on idle I can hear

tick, tick, tick, tick........................tick, tick, tick, tick...............seems to repeat every second. Revving the engine seems to speed it up slightly, but the sound is slight enough that maybe the engine noise is covering it.

after running for a few miles it seemed to disappear.

Any ideas ????

Will have a closer listen in daylight tomorrow with a trusty long screwdriver.

Cheers

Thanks Kwackerman,

But it is not the indicators, not even switched on,

4 fast ticks followed by a silence then repeats about every second.

In that case could be lift pump or vac pump, ticking could be it working to build up pressure (or vacuum), the silence could be when everything is at the correct pressure, as it is used up the ticking re-appears. Have you tried repeatedly pumping the brakes to see if that changes ticking rate?

Cheers Kwackerman,

Bloody typical, started today no ticking............ got the long screwdriver ready in the motor now so when it appears again I am ready to go searching.

Cheers

Cyclic sound is usually just that, something going around. Recently noticed a similar ticking that was resonating in the cab, turned out to be coming from the fan belt region... Replaced tensioner bearing after locating ticking using a steel wire and job done.

See if ticking persists through rev range, steering under load, braking, dipped clutch etc.
