Is it the knocking noise you're talking about or is that the recording of the engine, if its the wirring when it gets revved up have a look at carrier bearings, if you're driving on the road these would give a wirring noise from the handbrake area if they're dodgey.

Are you talking about the "tap tap tap" sound when changing speed? What a strange sound.

Did you try without the propshaft. Any difference?

Noise occurs when the engine is coupled subturat speed and disappears after 2000 rpm.
the propshaft bearings are good
I tried without cardan and sounds slowly.
Any idea where it comes from ?????

I would think that the noise is coming from the IRD. I'm guessing the output pinion has some backlash. Or if the noise is there there with the prop connected the noise could be coming from the front CV joint.

The pinion is good, that which connects drive shaft of the transfer case.
What sound is this, the bearings or pinions????

IRD is good, pinions and bearings are in excellent condition, other ideas that do not know what to check.
Waiting ideas and advice to elucidate the mystery.

HELP ,HELP,HELP!!!!!!

Is the VCU damper loose?
Maybe just one of the damper bolts is loose or broken?

Yes it is about moving counterweight at VCU
In pipe universal joints there is also any part or empty????

Hello

I think my Free has same noise when accelerating slowly with high gear(3,4,5) or when drive without pressing throttle. Did you find where the sound came from?
Thanks

It seems that the problem is not solved, now just go front-wheel drive and still is heard, I can not identify the problem at all
help please .......
.....Why is heard only at low revs ????

hi

this may sound daft but it isnt the exhaust by any chance is it

u say youve removed the entire prop, is the engine, ird, gearbox mountings ok

just didnt know if its something loose somehow as the noise seems to disappear when the revs go up

know its not much help but just an idea

I do not know what to check, I'm going crazy, I removed IRD opened and is in good condition, I changed the oil in the gearbox, driveshaft checked.
Everything happens in gears 3,4,5 when I press the gas pedal from 1800 rpm up to 2000 rpm, then disappears:confused:

this may sound a daft idea but here goes

have u had it up on ramps so u can get right under it

i assume youve left the entire prop, vcu all off

the noise happens on tickover doesnt it

can u get hold of a decibel meter, there are ones that have a very thin and accurate microphone on them , so u can pass it round the car and try and pinpoint the noise

let the car tick over, put your hand on the exhaust try and move it, clamps, brackets, have to tried putting a jack under the gearbox, ird, engine etc

just trying to also think what could cause that noise as i also expect its driving u insane ,

what about if u dip the clutch on tickover

sorry i cant be more help but just trying to think what could be causing it

failing that could u get it up on a garage ramp and an inspection lamp

just ideas mate

Looking at the amount of engine movement, it's well worth changing the lower tie bar bush. Also shake the cat about. It's possible the substrate has come loose and is vibrating inside the casting.
