So I’ve found I have an odd noise when I accelerate, sort of a rattle/knock/squeal,
Thought cv joint but now I’m not sure.
In the rains last night I went out and it felt sluggish like is was struggling to turn the wheels.
This morning I tried to pull away and It will drive but getting a loud thump from underneath.
Any idea before I start crawling around in the dirt?

I thought cv joint initially, sort of that sound but not on turning.
I did undo one end of the front prop shaft and found the UJ nearest the transfer box has a fair amount of movement, would that cause a squeal though?

I wouild have thoght this is possible if it has no grease in it. Don't leave it too long before sorting it as you don't want it to give up whilst driving.

If a CV joint is seized, then the whole shaft, both parts and the joint will turn as one, so not like a worn CV joint which graunches on full lock.
Ah yes, the front propshafts' funny UJs do have a reputation for that, finkin about it. They shouldn't have any movement, other than that which they are supposed to have. The squeal will be caused by metal to metal contact that shouldn't be there, as the needle roller bearings should stop it. Only way to be sure would be to take the shaft off and then move all UJs through all directions to see if there is slop or tightness.
Have you tried jacking each wheel up in turn and then turning it through a full circle? That should show up any problem with a CV joint.

If you have a CDL you could lock the diff and remove the front prop shaft. If the noise/sluggishness is gone then it was the shaft and not the CV joint.
