Hi all

Got a funny thing going on with my headlights. (1991 3.5 v8)

The dipped headlights and main beam seem to work fine, although when I'm on main beam I've got the blue headlight on the dash dimly lit. Is that right?

I can flash the lights fine and the blue headlight on the dash goes bright when I flash.

When I put the full beams on, the blue headlight on the dash goes bright but only the NS headlight goes full beam and the OS doesn't. I've switched the fuses around but same result.

Anyone got any idea's? I spent my time changing all the brakes and one of the turrets in preparation for the MOT this weekend and only just noticed this issue!

My main car has gone for a service and they had to keep it in overnight... my voltage tester is in the boot of my other car so can't test voltage anywhere til tomorrow!

Any help always appreciated!

bad earth somewhere.
check the connectors on the rear of headlights for melting, tho this usually plays tricks with sidelights or indicators.

sounds like it may be an earth problem with the dodgy light

im not a leccy expert though

Had the same problem with mine, it was the plug on back of the headlight bulb, changed it and all was ok, as nrgserv said it had melted due to bad connection

Thanks all

I took a look and the plug is indeed screwed behind the one that doesn't go full beam. I'll have to try a temporary fix to get it through the MOT.

The plastic is all melted but the spade connectors seemed fine (although a bit corroded). I'll take a look in the light and report back if I got it fixed or if I'm going to take it for the MOT anyway and pray the tester is super lenient (unlikely).

you could cut the plug off and fit standard spade connectors to the wires if your in a rush , or cut one from any other car with a H4 bulb

But 2 ceramic replacement plugs from eBay. Replace both and consider doing the headlight relay mod in the CFAQ section.

Thanks for the tips guys! I popped into the motor spares shop and picked up a new H4 head.

Cut the wires, soldered them on with a heat shrink shield over the solder and hey presto - lights are functioning 100% now!

Next problem... bought a 28mm head for my torque wrench to take out the sump nut. Damn 28mm is too small! Might just have to top up the oil and hope emissions will be fine...
