Hi. I have a 54 reg 1.8 freelander. A few months ago after 2 days of typical English rainy weather, we started hearing this grinding noise which seems to be coming from the front passanger side wheel.
The noise is more louder the slower you go. It does it constantly when the wheels are moving no matter what gear you are in. Including neutral. First of all we thought brakes, so we replaced the discs and pads but the noise continued.
We then thought maybe wheel bearings , but after taking it to 2 garages they are not sure as there is no play on the wheels when they are moved. This noise has been going on now for about 4 months and it has not got any worse. So everyone has suggested that while it is getting no worse to just let it be.
The 2 other possibilities that they think it could be is gear box or drive shaft.
Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. As i would really like to get this sorted, but I have been told to even strip the car down to investigate this would be very timely and costly.
When we have tried to look into this, it seems that in the past the gear box has had some sort of work done to it as it has been sealed up.
Other than this noise, the car is driving nicely. It's not affecting it at all.
Thanks for your help.
