(Have posted this before, but not in this section.) I've got a 2002 P38 Vogue SE.

Couple of weeks ago, EAS indicator on dashboard starting showing flashing light on standard height, taking a while to get there, sometimes 15 mins or so. No EAS fault shows, and it seems only front drivers side not raised. But does eventually rise and then it's great for a bit, then next day same thing at first, eventually correcting. No EAS fault showing.

One morning I thought my RR had gone into melt down, opened door with all sorts of clicks and noises, no start on turn of key, nothing. Dashboard displaying every error from gearbox fault, airbag fault, you name it, it came up. Boosted battery, everything OK, no faults showing, so have changed battery and all seems well.

But now i'm back to the EAS, lights flashing and eventually rises to full height, not on bump stops, well mostly not, most of the car rises a bit, then completely other times.

Took the car out today, and after a belt up the motorway the EAS rose to the correct height and then went down to motorway height and back to standard height as it should, car has behaved perfectly for the rest of the day. Can't help wondering if my battery is draining overnight.

Any suggestions would really be appreciated. Our local RR dealers are dreadful, but there doesn't seem to be any people who are happy to look at it, I just keep getting referred to the main dealer. Perhaps a battery drain test would be a good start?

I am just learning with Range Rovers so maybe not much help to you... but if it were a leaking airbag or pipe I would have thought the car would have gone down and not come back up.
I would say it sounds electrical, maybe a broken wire or bad earth... so some of the Guys in the know will be along shortly though..

Good Luck

weak pump or leak

If there was a leak, or a problem with the pump, wouldn't the problem be more constant. It only happens when I use the car for the first time in the day. Once standard height has been reached the car goes up and down as it should without fault. Low battery was suggested to me which is why I was wondering about a battery drain test.

If you have a leak, it will exhaust most or all of the air from the tank. Then, when you go to it in the morning, the pump has to refill the tank along with pumping up the springs. If the pumps getting a bit knackered, it'll take that much longer. After a period of running though, the springs are pumped up and the tank is full. The pump only has to replenish that lost threw the possible leak so that, when you have a change of height, there is enough in the tank to raise it back up again. I'd still look for a leak and check the output from the pump. There's a shed load of threads on here on this subject.

Basically your problem starts with a leak from the air bag or pipe.
The morning thing is due to the timed self levelling of the system.
If you don't fix the leak your compressor will be knackered through running for far too long.
Check for leaks by unplugging the relay under the drivers seat and checking the corner heights in the morning - the lowet corner has the leak .... thyen check the air bag at full height if its perished around the bottom thats where your leak will be.
Bags are about £60 from island 4x4 and are an easy diy fix.

Many thanks for that, taken the relay out and i'll have a look in the morning. I have started reading through all the other threads on the EAS system, slowly getting my head around it.

Car suspension was fine this morning though, and has been good all day. It's been suggested to me that a low battery will affect the system, with the suspension correcting itself after the cars been running for a bit cos the battery has been topped up? Anyone heard of this? I know low battery can cause all sorts of odd things to happen.

A low battery won't affect the system other than making the pump run a bit slower and therefore longer to raise the car up. Everything still points to a leak and/or a pump that's getting knackered.

If the airbags are original it's most likely to be an airbag leaking. A dodgy battery will cause lots of strange problems but not usually EAS problems.

Wise words indeed from my Coleagues. Check your service history to see if you have had any work done on the suspension system. If not I would advise a valve block rebuild kit and a pump seal and cylinder. All up your looking at about £50-60 in parts and a couple of hours work. This should last you another 8 years or so.
