Hi searched threads can not find a problem like mine. Parked disco at 2pm went to it at 5pm opened drivers door c/l does not work on this door this set alarm off pressed unlock on fob turned it off. Got in car no lights on dash nothing electrical working. Lifted bonnet thought it must be battery terminal as they are a bit worn they felt quite warm so disconnected the negative one. Tested voltage 6v so put on battery charger tripped it off after 10 sec took battery terminal off again put battery back on charge all ok. Left too charge for a while put terminal back on battery sparked like a dead short. Took big wire off alternator as been having charging problems still like dead short when touched battery terminal again any ideas please
Cheers in advance Colin Nichols

Before you can even start diagnosing problems on the Disco 2, you're going to need a good battery. you'll need at least 10.5 volts while you're cranking the engine. Anything less than that is going to give you all sorts of erroneous results.
If you suspect your alternator is at fault then disconnect it, recharge the battery and see what happens then. Let us know how it goes.

Charged battery put it on no electrics working still seems like it is shorting. Even sidelights and interior lights will not work. Cant understand how everything stopped when I just pressed unlock button Will have to disconnect leads from starter etc tomorrow and see if I can work out where electric is going

If it’s a dead short it may well be it’s the starter if the alternator is disconnected
It was the starter, solenoid was welding onto contacts starter was not spinning though bit weird. New starter new alternator new battery and it's OK now
