Hello all, after taking my 90 out for only its 3 or 4th trip going down a green lane the drive stopped. Looked under the car to see that only the front driveshaft is turning.

I stuck it in diff lock and the drive resumed, no noises but managed to limp it back to my in-laws..
i need to get the car back to my house which is around 4 miles , and ive just found out that my RAC cover nly applied to the one car and not my landy.

How can i get this back - can i disconnect the drive shaft - or is the only option to get it back on a flatbed - or can i tow it?

You can remove the rear diff and drive it in diff lock but I'm guessing you've busted a half shaft

My guess would be a CV joint or half shaft has failed.

Once you find the damaged one pull it out and you'll be able to drive in diff lock.

If front prop is spinning and its out of difflock then a component in the front axle has failed .
If no noise then unlikely to be front diff , so could be cv joint spline , or even splines in front driving member
removal of hub end cap will show if its latter as center shaft will rotate. If both side dont spin then could be fractured half shaft . HTSH

Taking front prop off aint going to achieve very much at all , you need to find out where the break is , and the possibility of further damage is relative to that . If its just a drive member (the flange on end of axle ) little risk of further damage , if cv joint then more possibility , if front diff then could result in banging something out thru diff pan .

14mm at a push if you dont have the right size to hand, try living in a metric country and owning green feckin ovals, grrr

Must be a lot of rounded nuts over there.:)

I agree. Only as a temporary measure to get home or to a garage.

i struggled with the 14mm spanners and got the prop off, both uv joints on the prop are ok. I did notice just before it all ended badly that there was a big shake on the steering when going round the corner and there was a bit of a knock too... i'm going to attempt to drive it home tomorrow..

When you said only the front prop is turning do you mean when you engage gear and the vehicle just sits stationary with the front prop turning?
