I have finally got round to having a straight through tailpipe installed to make it a completely straight thorugh system. However, I did some research before I went ahead with it to find that apparently, the engine will actually lose some power with a complete straight through system due to the turbo having no back pressure whatsoever - UNLESS, the fueling is increased, which I dont really want to do. Anyone got some first hand experience with a complete straight through system (preferabley on a 200tdi)? Thanks.

As the rear silence on the 200tdi is massive, would it just be better to have a smaller silencer installed (similar size to rear silencer on the TD5)?

turbos dont need or want any back pressure ,if straight through is too noisy just fit a small resanator box

What JM says. Diesels dont need any back pressure even turbo diesels. The only consideration is the noise.

turbo's actually benefit from the lack of back pressure, letting the exhaust escape quicker and wind up faster.

There is a massive discussion about it on here somewhere.

The idea of a 4 stroke needing back pressure(im talking about petrol engines) is to do with exhaust pulses .
These are critical on multi cylinder vee engines with normal plain cranks, but not flat plain as found on tvr aj v8s and formular one etc.
But then exhaust pulse back surge which can blow through the inlet valve could only be cured by very short exhaust stubs or cross linked manifolds to the corresponding firing cylinder.
I left automotive design in 96 so the above are hazy recollection so possibly a load of nonsence

I have straight through on my 300tdi 90 and I do t think it's that loud, the turbo spools up faster and you will be letting your engine breath, the basics of tuning more air and fuel in more gases out more power everyone's happy.

My Landy came with the exshaust but I had a standard 300 befor and this feels faster, both had the pumps turned up. The standard one more than this and I think this is quicker

i tride a straight through to load so put a cherry bomb sound **** hot now

Agreed.

My TD5 is quite load and as i now live in a little cul-de-sac with grannies and grandads around i need to keep the noise down. I will be getting a cherry bomb to quieten it somewhat.

I have a resenator box off miltek system from a golf r32 thought about it but I don't think it's to loud.
