I am told there are leaf spring stoppers that can be attached to u-bolts on axel.
Can anyone advise as to the name of this item and where to buy same.

many thanks...

the only stoppers I am aware of are the axles straps used to limit articulation before shock absorbers had internal stops in them (link). I am not sure if these are what you are referring to as they do not attach to the u bolts and instead bolt to the chassis and loop under the axle.

N.B. if these are what you mean be aware that they are handed and are different lengths.

Since i posted i have being told they are called dampers, i think they are kept in place by u-bolt and be about 2" facing upwards.
The idea being that the rubber thing on the chassis will make contact making sure that the spring cannot go below this point.

many thanks for quick replies...

Bump stops for compression and Axle straps for articulating, shock absorbers and springs and that's it.

Were series vehicles fitted with bump stops? I know coil sprung land rovers had them fitted to the chassis but I don't think I have ever seen them on a leaf spung vehicle.

They have a tendency to fall out due to the fixings rusting. Mine disappeared years ago. Unless you're going to do extreme off road they're not critical. Even light off road and landing is OK. The axle straps are more important.

I have the axle straps fitted to mine and have seen these on other vehicles. I will keep an eye out for bump stops, I wouldn't even know what the look like on a series vehicle.

Just looked at mine. It has 4 identical bump stops which google as pt no 241380 which seem to cost around £2 each but they are on 1" packers as its has the mil 2" lift. The packers are in the parts book as 241380 (the picture very clearly shows a packer) but there is no bump stop in the parts manual. A search brings up 526608 as the packer ("exstension piece") at £22 each! Very confusing.

I am new to this so forgive my ignorance.
From the excellent info i got from here i now know it is bump stops or more likely bump stop droppers i need.
The bump stops are in place, i was of the opinion that there may be something i could fit to centre of spring to
stop it going too far when excess weight on board.
I think the part i need is likely 526608, Rob what is meant by packers? part 241380.
I will have a look later as to how these items are fitted, welded or bolted...

Many thanks...

John,
Can i ask where these packers are attached?
I have found the "bump stops" on-line and will buy today.
I will also buy the packers if i feel i need, i could not find them on-line.

Any advise appreciated.
Many thanks....

Agreed, the bump stop goes on the chassis and the packers fit between the chassis and the bump stop but only on the military chassis. Google "land rover" followed by the part number then click "images" and you should see what they look like (I do this a lot to find out if part numbers are right)
