As title, STOOPID QUESTION.

No law saying you cant do it. After all, you can have a supercharger poking out of the bonnet and blocking your view but a stonechip in the screen will fail MOT! (?)

Unless you're building an expedition vehicle with additional spares, in which case a freelander is not the vehicle to chose then whats the point? Get a 110 and you can put wheels on the back, on the roof rack and if its a TDi, on the bonnet too.

Slobs right, it will warp the bonnet without reinforcing. What about, on the roof between the roof bars, with a bit of foam camping mat to protect your paint, that should give you enough head height for your garage. Just stick on the two clamping roof bars in front and behind it to stop it sliding off. If you got a roofbox then cut a great big hole in the base to accomodate the tyre.

Have plenty of gear to reinforce so no probs there..

Garage litterally 1" above US spec roof bars..Uk spec wont fit in at all..(not my garage to lift roof on either....that would be too simple) due to slope in/out at points has only about 10mm ....
