yes they short an indicator out and blow the fuse so no flashing lights

A friend of mine has one of these fitted to his defender.

Gemini Alarm Systems. G TRACK. 7892 MyMINI.

Essentially it provides movement alerts to his mobile, google map positions, it alerts if it's been disabled, it can be turned on / off from his phone. Even if the car is taken with the key it still alerts, it can be immobilised from his phone - by waiting until it's stationary for 30 seconds then it kills engine. Cost £300 fully fitted!

thanks for all support and interest. I did think about not giving the detail and I suppose if you haven't had one stolen yet then you would think "don't tell them how", however I have, and I wish someone had told me so that I could have prevented it.
No sign of anything yet , most likely in bits being shipped out to foreign clients to maintain one of the thousands of overseas LDs in need of parts.
For those "would be " used car part salesman who apparently read these forums I now have a deterant fitted on my drive. I wont say what it is but to be fair to you I will reveal how to deactivate it.
Write this bit down. There is a button on the right hand side of the front door, press this three times with 10 second intervals. You then have to wait for it to deactivate. You will know when it has when you see the blue flashing glow behind you

I have a similar system, but mine's faster.

3 big dogs and a crowbar behind the front door ;)
