Hi. Just had our second Landrover stolen from our driveway in the last 14 months. This one was a green SWB Landrover Defender 90. 1995. Had been owned at some time by a building company and had some decals on the white lip of the roof, a british bull dog and a digger were two of them. Even if removed they will leave a mark I would think.

Because this was our second landy and the first one was stolen Nov 2009, we installed an alarm, used a krook lock and fitted an extra 'switch' which immobilised the power to the ignition. They still managed to steal it at around 4.00 am this morning. Police had no hits on their system for the number plates after this time, so they have instantly changed the plates. They have also damaged the drivers side rear lights pulling out of the drive. They have hit the gate post and smashed the light and indicator. Also inside, there is a home made partition screen between the van back and the front, a wooden frame with a canvass/pvc window to stop draughts etc. Please keep your eyes out for it. Thanks

What more can you do to stop these people?
 
Sorry to hear that mate. Someone once suggested to me sticking a bit of cardboard in the air box, under the filter - pain in the arse but they're going nowhere fast with your pride & joy!

Your insurance is going to hit the roof. Have you considered a tracker, wont stop it being stolen but would trace it. May help with insurance costs.
 
Sorry to hear about your landie, if & when caught instead of sending these people to prison (at every tax payers expense) they should cop their bloody hands off. Not only does it prevent them from stealing again it will also show people what scum these people are:mad2:

This is quite right! I had 5 recovery LORRIES craned OVER a fence......what with god only knows, but everything in reach was cleared and they were gone.

No-one saw a thing - surprise! - which I found hard to swallow, being the size of the crane they must have used, and multiple vehicles to cart them away!

Only thing that will stop these people are trackers. text you when it moves and tells you where it is going. You will need to hide it in a landy though as they try to rip them out if they can.

But if they want it, they will take it.....sorry to hear of it and I do hope you get it back. I would look into trackers now - as your insurers will probably insist next time.

What weight were these lorries?? they must be using heavy lifting gear, Specialist stuff.

sounds like it was initially towed away from the scene and then probably started once it was around the corner.:(

Out of curiosity was there any damage to the gate post or is it possible that the light and indicator were removed and then run over making it look like it had hit the gate post?

Hi, Thanks for all of the replies. I'll check with my husband as to what make of alarm he fitted, it wasn't anything too fancy but it wasn't a cheap job either.

The gate post was damaged, it is now leaning heavily to one side, as we heard nothing much inside the house I'm assuming it was more pushed or pulled over rather than run into.
Judging by the scuff marks on the gravel in the drive and the bits of wire left by the theiving toerags I'm assuming they didn't get it started but had to pull the landy out of the driveway and into a lorry or onto a trailer. The vehicle was full of my husbands riding stuff, his riding hat, boots, fencing gear, tools, long waxed coat, jackets etc. (he is a riding instructor and we have horses, hence needing a landrover in the first place). We didn't lose as much gear this time as last time as we still hadn't replaced it all. Last time he had about £2500 of gear in the back. Rediculous I know but it soon adds up when you start adding upo how much stuff costs. Tools, lamps, ratchet straps, towing hooks, stuff like that, don't come cheap when you ahve to replace them.
My only hope is that whoever tries to break it up is allergic to horses and has a massive asthma attack whilst in the back of the vehicle. That would be retribution!

The police have taken the piece of wire for DNA testing, very CSI!

Can anyone suggest a good make of tracker for the next vehicle please?
