Hi all

Still looking for a P38. A couple of fine fellows on here have offered me theirs but they are a bit beyond my 2K buying budget regardless of how nice they are.

I am trying to buy on condition - lots of people have said buy as late as you can but there are some very well looked after early ones I have considered.

I hope i'm not going to offend by posting these links - I just want people's thoughts. I am NOT selling any of the below!

Josh

Used 1999 Land Rover Range Rover SE for sale in Surrey | Pistonheads

Used 1995 Land Rover Range Rover Se 4.0 Classic 1996 Model In Very Good Condition A Real Blast From The Past for sale in Oxfordshire | Pistonheads

Gorgeous P38 106K For Sale (1995) on Car And Classic UK [C491781]

PS in case anyone was wondering - I can't drive something with cream leather. I just cant.

You may crack a better deal buying private. Personally I wouldnt touch a V8 but each to their own.
Late (post 99) are better as the electrics seem to be improved.

no,no & no theres far better out there + personally wouldn't have a se all are low spec & overpriced

I hope you get free fuel if you go down the V8 route! Or have an LPG kit handy! If you're going to go V8, why not go the whole hog and get the 4.6?

More toys = more things to go wrong. How much time do you need away from the wife and kids?

Thankfully I don't have miles to complete, wife to convince or kids to pay for (yet) I'm coming from an MX5 with no toys so low spec isn't an issue for me. The V8 is the toy!
Do you think the cars in those links should be haggled down to C. 1500 quid? .

There all nice cars , but none have the lpg kit on them unless you a secret millionaire and can afford the fuel , keep looking

imo all wrong colour, spec & price you will soon want better as I did years ago. my first p38 was a m reg 1995 4.0se & 5 yrs old at the time great after various classics but over the years I got through dervs,se,hses & vogues & believe me there is a difference;) but hey I aint gotta drive it:( get a l322 and enjoy :focus:

Go for a 4.6, as mentioned, better gearbox, not much MPG difference between the 4.0 & 4.6 & they have much better spec (an SE & a Vogue are worlds apart).

or find a top hatted V8 and drive it around for 4 years with no bother (oh, I did that)

And again depends on personal usage circumstances for fuel. I put more fuel in my 2.2 BMW couple than in the 4.6 V8 (non lpg).

Test drive the diesel too. I saw one appear at a local garage last week, sticker price £5500. Was going to look at it but yesterday sold, bummer. Must have been tidy for that money.

Lucky if you can find a top hatted V8 for sale. Most are long term keepers due to cost but a great find regardless of spec.
Also, reading your original post, you will struggle finding a decent spec RR without cream leather (the best interior IMO).

I just bought a 2001 4.6 vogue that just had a new block, top hat conversion and lpg fitted.... £2900 in a dealer!!!
Made £300 back selling the roof bars as the came with the aero cross bars as well and I dont like them.

Did have a dead sterio amp though.
Oh and a few niggles with broken wendow regs and blend motors.

All fixed now though for less than £100

New sterio is an android 4.0 satnav system for £260 and works with the steering wheel controls out of the box!!

Its a shame having the range rover satnav screen but no sound but as its a bit out dated I thought it was better to update.

Anyway, My point being is keep looking and youll be lucky in the end.

Looks tidy & a proper bargain by the sounds of it.

Yea, the bill for the engine removal, new block and rebuild with tophat conversion cost £4700!!!

It was a part ex in a high performance dealer, the guy traded in 2 rangerovers as deposit for a new sport from what I was told. Think the other was an L322. So I bought it as a trade sale as a spares repairs due to the faults.

Dealer didnt have a clue about or didnt care about how easy it was to fix and just wanted it gone as was bringing the high class status of his showroom down!

Had a couple of nice aston martins I wish I could of had off him as well haha.
