range rover overheating and cold air coming through heaters its a 4 litre n reg auto im going to check thermostat is it easy 2 take out please help

hHi There,
yes its really easy to check. The thermostat is located on the bottom hose on the radiator. Its connected to the rest of the hoses using push clips.
Just remove it and drop it in a bowl of boiling water and see if it opens.

To be honest i would be very suprised if this was the problem!

'Tis the time of year for head gasket failure and this sounds like yet another one. Don't shoot the messenger!

Dont panic......just had a simular problem, turned out to be blocked radiator. See if the top hose is hard when hot, if it is, continue to panic, if its not and the oils not milky it could be waterpump thuromstet or rad. Do a search on the net to find out more, theres loads of help out there!!

Hey, Might be worth pressure testing the cooling system, also test the radiator cap. If you get the pressue rising quickly when running suspect head gasket. make sure you check thermostat as mentioned first.
Heater not blowing hot makes it sound like head gasket when the combustion gases enter the cooling system they usual head for the highest point and stay there. The heater matrix usual collects the gases/air and then doesnt operate cos its not gtting a good flow of hot coolant.
Also do you have lpg on this one and have you drained the coolant previously?
Had alot of trouble over the years with range rover ps8's losing water or getting hot. What i have found is that its hard to get all the air out the cooling system especially with lpg and the added water hoses. We use a vacuum tool now. It vacuums the entire cooling systems of air/water everything. You then test the vacuum for a while with the guages on the tool. When your ready to refill you turn a knob, which releases the vacuum. The tool has a pipe which you already have put in antifreeze/water mix. When you turn the knob the vacuum in the cooling system sucks the antifreeze mix in and fills it to purfection and you have not got to worry about any air. When I have used this tool on problem range rovers with water loss they have stopped losing water and become pretty normal! As far as normal goes with a P38!!
