good afternoon anyone any idea what could be wrong with it i think the steering pump is going buggered

As above, the first things to check.
If alls ok there, try oiling the input shaft uj's , they get sticky and notchy.
If it gets better after the oiling but still not right, oil some more and/or replace them.

Mine went stiff all of a sudden and it just needed some oil....... Ooooh Errrrrr missus!!!!!

Just check the power steering fluid level.

cheers fellas i checked the oil level and the belt tension but both are good will oil uj's tomorrow thanks for the advice

When my viscous fan unit seized that had a knock on affect to my power steering an increase in noise and slight loss of power.

And i would assume a sticky / partly seized alternator would have similar affect with increased resistance on the belt

Mine wet stiff suddenly another landy man at the sailing club immediately said UJs a quick spray of wd40 ( all I had at the time) cleared the problem. Later I used grease and rubbed it into the joints properly. Never had a problem since.
