Hi, I have a 1.8 freelander (04 plate) I’ve previously been told it has a heavy clutch, which Would normally only affect 1st and 2nd gear and could be alleviated by pumping the clutch before starting the engine. However while driving the other day I felt it click under the pedal and it got really difficult to put into gear (all gears). Anyone got any ideas what could have gone? Thanks

Probably the complete hydraulic system which I believe can only be replaced as a single unit IE master, slave and all pipework as one.
Could be just where the slave pushes on the clutch, not as daunting as it sounds.
I'm sure if I'm wrong the learned one's will answer shortly.

But don’t fit new system, until you have made sure clutch actuating lever is nice and free where it passes thro bell housing, which is probably your problem, the click you heard is either the bracket cracked and bent which holds slave cyl.
or the circlip broke in the master

Is the hydraulic system expensive freelance ? Got a feeling mines going. Hard to select gear especially when changing down. Pump pedal twice goes in easy. No probs usually when changing up.
