my td5 box is now hard to change gear when hot, esp after a motorway
run when it will hardly come out of 5th a will not centralise?? i have had the springs on the top of the box and a plate renewen but its still the same. been told i need a recon box £850+ anyone had the same or have any help? i use everyday at work offroad need help!!

This is a common enough issue and may be a simple fix. From memory, there is a ball below the gear stick that needs lubed. I have a feeling that you can dribble some oil down the gear stick shaft.

Someone with better info can maybe advise you further.

Also, try searching on this or other forums.

Having to swap the gearbox is very unlikely.

Cheers

My TD5 is exactly the same.
Normal driving below 65 mph and theres no problem at all, but I did about 10 minites one day at about 80 mph and when I came to my junction the gear change was stiff as f$$k.

I was thinking oil, but to be honest, I very rarely go above 60 !.

I agree with Andy, definately not a new gear box.

( my Disco,s done 67,000 miles by the way ).
