Hi
I'm just back from a flying visit to Falmouth from Lancaster (~400 miles x 2 ) via M6, M5, A30 so pretty much all in 5th.
The car was fantastic, didn't miss a beat...except...when I turned off the motorway/dual at each end of the trip and dropped out of 5th, I couldn't engage any other gear without a liberal dose of double de-clutch.
Added to a decidely sticky gearchange from cold these days I was wondering if there's anything I sh/could be doing to make life easier (for me and the R380)
I use MTF94 as recommended, but is this perhaps an indication that I should try ATF?

it might be a clutch issue then

MTF94 would not cause you trouble whatsoever so your problem is something else... for me the clutch is suspect and the double0clutch thing points toward one of the cylinders

Thanks Sierrafery, of course that makes more sense than it being a fluid issue!

Ah well, the piggy bank's not going to like this.

On an lt77 many years ago i had trouble changing gears when it was hot and it turned out to be the pivot ball widget that the gearlever pivots on, removed/greased and never any more issues.
Not sure if 380 is the same idea?

+1 on lynall's comment.
Did you need to double de-clutch or was it case of a 2nd attempt with the gearlever becsuse it was stiff to move?
I've had similar symptoms on our D2 caused by the plastic bush at the bottom of the gear lever breaking up.
If it is, beware next stage of failure is being able to select either only 2nd, 4th & reverse OR only 1st and 3rd - as the bush breaks up further & prevents gear selector movement in 1 direction.

Ha!!
Thanks chaps :), but TBH I'm going down the clutch route. I actually had the gearstick out recently and the basket was absolutely fine. If I'm honest I've had a whistling thrust bearing in reverse for the whole 2.5yrs of ownership...and that has been getting slightly louder recently.
I'm thinking that I should actually be proud of myself for nursing the clutch for all this time, rather than feel bitter that it's the first one I've ever gone through.

if parked with the engine running foot holding the clutch down can you select 1st then reverse smoothly if not look at clutch , if you can try the other gears too, if you miss a gear its normally very difficult to find the one you wanted without releasing the clutch or finding another gear first ,. ie from 5th to 4th wont go try 3rd then 4th, stick position by bias springs may need looking at, oil change or poor baulk rings
