At first I thought my problem was being caused by the lower tailgate (the "seat" ) jamming somehow and the motor couldn't cope with unlocking. The red herring was sometimes if I shoved against it she would unlock with a hit of the button...

Today, I had a moment to fanny around with it until it opened, so I undid the cover and checked everything only to find no obvious problems. If I poke the latch innards, she opens no problem. All parts present & correct.

However, I initially thought perhaps the solenoid motor wasn't strong enough, but again it is fine. I did notice one thing and I believe this is the problem, but not sure why so thought I'd ask.

It would appear the tailgate doesn't "realise" the top section is already open so it should now undo the lower section.... What am I missing? What part tells the gubbins the top is open, it's time for the lower section?

If I leave the top section half latched, the interior lights stay on and the dash faithfully informs me the tailgate is open, so something is working well.

I am assuming it's some hidden micro switch, but where is it? o_O

While I'm at it, my cruise is not working. I am thinking it may be connected with the steering wheel. So do I need a whole wheel or can I simply replace the ribbon parts? And are they part of or separate from the airbag spinning cassette jobby? And does anyone have a nice wooden/leather wheel much cheapness ;):p

I had the same problem with the lower tailgate-tried a newer solenoid but still the same. Ended up using picture framing wire and a big washer-attached wire to mechanism, drilled hole in tailgate cover (inside!)-now just pull the washer from the inside. Works a treat.
