Hi
I encountered a sticking tailgate lock yesterday, its seems to be the bottom tailgate, just doesnt release, you can hear it trying to unlock but doesnt.
I tried it this morning and it worked ok, does connenections need cleaning, any advice would be great.

Hi there Colin,

I had this myself. If you push the button to open the top half then push the button again and again it should free off. Once it's open remove the carpet trim on the bottom tailgate and spray the moving parts of the actuator with WD40. Mines been fine for weeks now mate try it. :)

hi , forgive me but DON'T listen to anyone who RECOMENDS WD40:eek::eek: on wiring to a p38 !!!!!!!!! for gods sake it tells you in the name WD water ?????:eek::eek: right heres the gist its been covered many times before and I can absolutely guarantee it works !!!!! open tailgate down , remove carpet trim , this reveals back of button , this strips downt to 4 parts , undo the connector clean and spray with electrical contact spray e.c.c. . dry , remove coiled spring clean completely with wire wool ,lightly grease with Vaseline , then clean out inside of button and receptor and lightly grease with Vaseline re-assemble all back together , re-fit carpet and job done , this will now ensure boot opens easily and also stops main doors buttons going up and down whilst driving ,,, also as the boot is directly fed from drivers door actuator it may be prudent to remove driver door card off and clean actuator and microswitches and use e.c.c. on them too ,,,:):):):)'',....FURTHER NOTE , wd40 is an abbreviation of water displacement it is an oil based protective to stop moisture and damp penetrating , so its like once the horse has bolted . its no good sraying wiring once there already damp ,, all your doing is keeping the damp in !!!!!!! so basically if your going to use it then use it on brand new wiring !!!!! hope ive explained this easily enough for everyone ,, kind regards MOZZ

Ok ok sorry sorry use something along those lines I didn't spray the connections just the little moving arm type things... I know what WD40 stands for. Use contact cleaner on electrics WD40 as aftershave ;)

Hi all, just to clarify this, with the top half open and the button pushed again, should the bottom half become unlocked/disengaged?

The reason I ask is mine needs a light pull at the same time as the button is pressed to actually open. I took the catches off a couple of months back and degunged them and re-greased them. All works fine fine with a light pull as previous.

Yes

Check the connectors to the solenoid & button are free of corrosion. Otherwise it may be a case of adjustment or a sticky solenoid assembly.

Adjust the catches properly should not need to be pulled.
