For my Defender 110, 1992, I'm about to attempt a stereo install (only thing I can do due to the endless fffing drizzle.) It doesn't appear to have ever had one installed before, so this'll be a first for the old lady.

Been trawling the posts for a couple of hours now but can't seem to find a decent stereo installation tutorial with pics.

Anyone come across one of these tutorials lately?

Thanks

It's really not hard at all. Just go to halfords and get the right connector for your stereo if you don't already have one. Then it's simply a case of picking up a switched live from somewhere. I used the back of the lighter socket. Then you need a permanent live and an ariel. Then wire the speakers in. Run the wire for the ariel up the inside of the windscreen surround. You can put the speakers in the bottom of the dash but you'll find you knee them all the time. I put 2 6" speakers in the roof at the side of me and the passenger. That was how I put my first stereo in but now I've gone a bit more complicated. 2 amps, a 12" sub, 2 6" speakers and 2 6x9s is what I'm running at the moment.

But in answer to your original question, I don't know of a defender stereo installation tutorial.

Thanks for the info, Khaos

Found the lighter wire no problem. Well, there's two wires going into the lighter, not sure which one is live. Is red insulated wire generally considered live? Suppose I could do a multi-meter test.

As for the permanent live, how would I identify that in the bundle of wires coming from the rear of the fuse box?

Do you have to have an earth too?
