personally I would steer clear of scotch block connectors and make either a screw connection or a crimp connection.

The blade connection on scotch blocks corrodes/reacts then starts arcing causing carbonisation thereby causing a high resistance causing more carbonisation etc etc. If you gonna do the job Do it right as posts above re relays and fuse boxes imho

Heard that a smearing of vaseline prevents this?

why bodge itnwith scotch lock type things when doing to properly takes the same amount of time and money....

Why bother asking for advice and then querying all advice thats offered. Do what you want its your Landy that will catch fire not mine. :blabla: :blabla:

I'm asking for clarification of the needed and appreciated advice that's kindly been given to further my understanding and education of the matter.

I can see now how youve got over 100 posts in 10 weeks.

Well, we all have to start somewhere and this forum - with it's kind and helpful members - have helped me a great deal. I try to reciprocate where I can.

Think they think you're a troll

I don't, but willing to be prooved wrong:)

Thanks for the support, Station :)

Troll: posts by someone who's primary intent is to provoke readers into an emotional response.

That is certainly not what I am attempting :nospamhere:, although perhaps I'm being trolled

Just wanted some friendly, hopefully expert advice on installing a stereo into a Defender.

The world is a mad place!

Nobody's that thick.. And yet clever in questions x

:( I beg to differ. I AM that thick! Or rather, more uneducated on this matter than most people on this forum.

But one day, I'll be able to help a novice like myself.

It's the circle of life, mate.

Where are you based? Some one may offer to help

Thanks for the offer, but this thread has given me everything I should need now.

Have ordered all the components as per the advice given; am able to use a multi-meter without too much head scratching; and now understand a little more about wires, connectors, feeds, earths, etc.

Agreed.

Is it feasible for someone to be able to string a sentence together, yet at the same time lack information about a particular subject? FYI: this would account for the entire human race!

Now, if you want to continue this unnecessary character assassination, then please PM me rather than interrupting the flow of this thread, which, incidentally, will be a useful source of stereo installation info for others too.

Peace.
