Has anyone who has fitted an aftermarket stereo got the steering wheel controls working? I want a cd player in the cabin but want to know who has used what systems etc. Just contemplating it at the minute and want to see if its worth it

I did buy something (from the US) that is supposed to allow me to use the steering wheel controls with the new Clarion I fitted. It's been SORNed for the past year though so there hasn't been much pressure to actually fit it. I'll try and remember to dig it out later and report back.

I've actually seen a radio advertised that claimed to work with existing steering wheel buttons. I didn't keep the info as mine doesn't have buttons so you need to search.

Did a little look.about. Was thinking that if I got a half decent clarion cd head unit I would have more cchance of keeping them. The wiring harness adapter alone is over 40 quid so just sussing if it's worth it.

40 quid!? Clarkie made mine for me for a few quid but he seemed to mysteriously disappear.

The Clarion reconditioning route is quite a good way to go but I wanted hands free phone integration.

There's several options out there, but those that say they support P38 buttons are expensive.

I found a load of onto on how to do it for Pioneer head units, but this would require either (a) changing steering wheel resistors, or (b) building the circuits.

I now have my Pioneer DEH-8600BT working as head-unit feeding the Harmon Kardon door & sub amplifiers via the Phono Line Outputs. Bluetooth works really well, and calls are loud & clear.

Not got round to adding steering buttons, but the stereo is well within arms-length :D

Attached are some details I got from this thread:

Just found my bit. It's by a company called PAC (Pacific Accessory Corporation) and it seems to be called SWI-JACK Universal Steering Wheel Control Interface. It apparently works with JVC, Alpine, Clarion and Kenwood and can be programmed to work with many different cars.

I bought it on the back of a review that I think I read on here but you should be able to Google it. I'll fit it soon!

Ok cheers I will have a look.

All the ones on ebay that support wheel controls via resistance values will work, Ive fitted a 7" gps dvd player one that works with the wheel controls
