Hi I have a defender 200tdi and am thinking of changing the steering wheel any advice on type and size would be a gret help.
cheers :):)

Depends what year it is ?

200 tdi got a nice new wheel in 1993 but it also got a new shaft and splines so you can't just change the wheel

Has anyone ever seen an extractor? I can't get mine off, no matter what I try. I spoke to my local landy salvager and he reckons they've never had to use one. Advice please !

Loosen the nut a few turns, tap the top of the steering shaft with a universal persuader (hammer to normal folk) whilst pulling the wheel towards you. Dont remove the nut or you'll get a face full of steering wheel. Also hit the shaft square on or you'll burr the threads over.
Works for me every time. When you put the wheel back on use some copper slip and dont over tighten and it will come off easy next time.

I'll give it a go, looks like my most used tool is coming out of the box, brute force and ignorance!! Thanks for the advise!!

Put a 13" one on my 200tdi defender and i've got massive tyres/wheels, some people said steering could be awkward but absolutely no probes at all.

I bought a steering wheel puller of ebay that was made by a chap on ebay worked a treat any brand names that you would recomend

A 13" turned my 110 into a sports car with heavy steering.....think me steering box is ****ed though:mad:
