Hi my 1.8 Freelander xei has started making an annoying vibration/squeel whenever i turn a corner at slow speeds, it sounds like its comming from the left hand sinde and it only happens when i turn the wheel at slow speeds. Has anyone got any ideas what this could be?

squeal is normally related to the brakes, a vibration or clicking noise would be from one of the drivshafts

Hi thanks for the link my problem doesnt seem to be similar to the problems described in the link.

I noticed today when i inspected the car closer that it was leaking some sort of oil, i suppose this could be power steering oil?

Ive lost most power steering as well and the car is hard to turn around corners with.

Just to add last nite i took the car off road and got a bit carried away and started doing donoughts in the field and drifts etc.

Do you know what could be the problem?

power steering oil is usually red - wot colour is the leaked oil. It could be ya PAS pump or the belt - coz when ya turning, the pump is supplying pressure to the PAS rack. Not one to leave fur long.

The oil is a redish colour, ive also noticed that if i drive the car for about 5 minutes a strage smell begins to woft around the car from the area concerned.

Does this sound like an expensive job?

That'll be your problem then, driving like a madman. :p

feels good to get the FL muddy and lets you know the limits of the FL on slide control. A worthwhile excercise even if it did put alot of strain on your PAS system.

Where is the leak coming from? Is it a loose hose clamp or somewhere more serious?

yea i agree, it does feel good to get the thing muddy. This is the annoying thing i can't find out where the leak is comming from. How do people find oil leaks? i filled the thing up with some steering fluid today and the car was perfect for about 10 minutes before it all leaked out. Suggesting to me that it is just a simple leak but i cant find where it is! grrrr....

clean the oil orf and refill wiff fresh oil. you should then, be able to see wur it coming from

Does anyone know if there is some sort of diagram/online manual for the freelander 2000 xei. I really need to know how the PAS system works to find this offending tube!

Hope this helps!
