Hi everyone

So I know it’s a common problem but my steering wheel tilt doesn’t work. I have an 04 RR vogue TD6. I took the case around the steering wheel column off. Can see the motor for the tilt. When activated I can hear it making a noise. But nothing happens. What should I do?

Many thanks

John

It is a common fail the tilt mechanism to break.....uber references about this are abound on the web......

Official repair is a replacement upper steering column - unofficial, there are repair details on the net - time for some super Gooooooogle skills to come to the fore.

I would belt it first and then undo the nut to see if it has wound out or in too much.;)

Thats a point, the nylock on the shaft end can tighten up so motor wont turn, I have replaced mine with two normal nuts locked together to stop it happening.

Only if it's over tightened. Nylock nut if good should remain set in the position it was put in.

I believe you’re right that it’s too tight/stuck so I googled to try and find a video to show me how to undo it but I think I googled wrong. I need to keep looking/have some spare time. I’m prob best to replace the whole thing at this point

I agree @wammers but the column on the l322 I have now both the tilt and reach were disconnected and a bit of research on the old tinternet through up about that nut hence my locked nuts.

Bit like my old eas all still going great

If looked after yes. If neglected and repaired by pricks it gives problems. Like anything else on a vehicle happy amateurs ruin most of them. Knowing what you are doing is primary. Messing with things you don't understand and bodging always leads to tears.
