my steering wheel is off centre- what are the reasons for this happening and what can be done to fix them? I have a 2002 disco 2.

Many thanks in advance.

Do you mean it's not pointing straight when your driving straight or do you mean when you spin the wheel round the rim goes round offset?

is this a recent development,it could mean someones had the wheel off and fitted it back in the wrong place or youd need to centralise pas box then center steering wheel, then adjust drag link if necessary, pas box should be central when your driving straight and steering wheel correspond to that

Many thanks for your reply- it’s not pointing straight when driving straight.

The vehicle was purchased couple of months ago. Has been like it since I bought it.

Many thanks,

James

Getting the tracking done (by someone who knows how to do a Landy) will sort it. Usual culprit if your suspension hasn’t been messed with is a bend in the track rod after hitting something, in which case simply adjusting back to the correct toe measurement should straighten up your wheel.

It can actually be done reasonably accurately yourself if you search out the rod method.

You are welcome. Quick tip, if you are going to take it to a garage, spray the track rod end threads with a good penetrating oil like plus gas every day for a week first. When mine first needed done I took it to National who said it was seized and they couldn’t do it, so I’d need to free it off and go back. That’s when I learned to do it myself, but it took 2 of us on big stilsons to shift the track rod for what was probably the first time in 10 years.
