Whenever I turn my steering wheel to the left (and only left) at parking speeds, I get a rubbing/squeal/whine noise in certain points but not all the way through.

I changed the PAS fluid in the reservoir twice already, it somewhat helped after each time (never 100% gone), but then comes back eventually.

I also changed the short hose from reservoir to the power steering pump because my mechanic said it could be getting air into it.

1) What else would you try?

2) Is it worth bleeding the fluid, or would normal use self-bleed it from air?

Spec: D2a V8 2003 with ACE, SLS

Update: Other things I've noticed:
- The power steering pump is covered in black soot/oil/residue.
- The internal filter of the PAS reservoir has some black stuff collecting in it.

Cant help (and cant find the thread) But there was a similar thread in the range rover section the disco and P38 share a similar design so maybe worth a search. Not sure if it was solved.

this 1, not really a fix as such but a solution

Although you describe it as creaking so maybe dry suspension components.

Will edit the post, but it's a squeal or kind of a rubbing noise and feels like it comes from the steering wheel itself. No idea how to diagnose in there.

In regards to the Rangie thread:
- Sounds very similar to my issue.
- I'm in Australia and we've got Penrite PAS fluid here which is recommended as OEM.
- The cheaper Penrite stuff has some anti-squeal inhibitors, and it is about half price of the recommended one and the guys on the forums here advise against it.

Not sure how to proceed, because buying the power steering stop leak/squeal stuff worked for the other guy.

Here's what my pump looks like - has a bit of old leaking fluid on it? Or also could just be oil from rocker gasket leaks (fixed).

Here's what the inside of the reservoir looks like - some black buildup:

Hi, I have the exact same thing, sounds like rubber being rubbed when turning left, now I'm losing power steering fluid and the car makes a few weird noises when driving but no loss of fluid. I'm taking it to a garage for a look at on Monday morning, but hoping to get some answers here to help my garage work it out.

Isn’t that what you’re paying the garage for?
It takes time to look for the problem and that costs money, so it would be useful for my garage to get a bit of an insight beforehand, and useful to my pocket. Plus, at this time of year the whole world and its sister wants their cars fixed before Christmas.
