I wanted to upgrade the stereo in my Disco 2 - it only had the lowline one fitted and I wanted to be able to connect my iPod & have hands-free phone etc. I bought an Eonon D1310 flip-out DVD unit and have fitted it myself without much issue, except I can't get the D2's steering wheel controls (SWCs) to work with it.

As far as I can see, all Eonon units have the same connection setup for the SWCs, so I'm hoping someone on here has some experience of how to get them working with the same or a similar setup.

The D2 has a 2-wire "resistor ladder" setup for the SWCs - i.e. when you press one of the buttons, a different resistance is presented between the two wires. I've connected a meter to the ends of them and I can see this working correctly.

The Eonon systems have 3 wires, one of which is GND and the other two are supposedly meant to connect straight to the 2 wires from my SWCs. There's then a "learning" setup screen which should let me teach it what buttons should have what functions (Vol+, Vol-, Mode etc.)

Problem is, when it's all connected up, the unit doesn't seem to be able to see the button presses at all. :monitor_punch:

I've read threads on other forums that suggest this or that wire needs to be connected to GND as well, but I don't want to do that blindly in case I short something out.

So... any ideas chaps

OK - answering my own question here, so let this stand as a quick "How To" guide for future internet searchers on the subject.

I found half a suggestion on another forum, by someone who'd fitted one to a completely different make and model of car, and I thought it was worth a try. And it worked. So... ignore the instructions that come with the Eonon device, and connect as follows:

EONON Unit----------------------------CAR
"Key 1" Wire (Brown)------------------SWC Wire 1 (Grey/Red)
"Key 2" Wire (Brown/Black)------------SWC Wire 2 (Grey/Black)
"GND" Wire (Black)--------------------GND Wire (Black)

PLUS (the crucial one!):

"Key 2" Wire (Brown/Black)------------GND Wire (Black)
