Hi all,

I'm posting this to save anyone else having to hunt for this info.

If you want to fit an aftermarket stereo, you may want to make the steering wheel audio controls work with that stereo.

I had a lot of trouble sourcing the correct adapter leads, but finally got it with help from Autoleads after measuring the resistance across the steering wheel controls.

The lead you need is the PC99-X30 from Autoleads. You then buy the correct interface lead for your stereo brand, Sony, Kenwood, Clarion etc.

Yep, I used the same lead on my old td4 - makes light work of connecting aftermarket stereos

And since selling my freelander I now have a 6 month old Alpine head unit for sale with built in Parrot Bluetooth and iPod connectivity - not to forget everything you need to install it into a freelander td4. Facia adapters, wiring harness and the steering remote harness.

Will be listing as a job lot In the buy and sell if anyone's interested pm me.

Bugger bolocks beastie were some of the words I used when I got
Hold of a brand new Becker Casscade to replace the factory Becker
Sterile in my disco 11 when I found out that it would not work with
The steering wheel controles or even control the cd player I looked
Into this and after talking to uic and land rover it was decided that
I had a choise to either do away with my cd player and get an iPod
And forget about the steering wheel controles
Now eaven though this is the best voice controled sat nav with Bluetooth
I have decided to keep the original unit in the car and sell the Casscade

Can you tell me the year of the Freelander you did this on? I have been searching for some time for this info myself.

We have a 2004 HSE TD4 so it had the Alpine Nav. It seems that this is only one not listed by manufacturers such as Autoleads.

The Mrs loves the Freelander (and the DAB radio) but not the lack of steering wheel control - I'd like to sort that out as I hate trading one thing off against another!

Can anyone tell me where I can pick up the steering control cables within the car and colour codes please ? I've had a good look round behind the stereo and cant find anything.

The wire for the steering wheel controls is built into the main ISO connections for the radio.

I can't remember the colour code, but a quick look at a RAVE should give you the info you need.

If you are using an Autoleads adapter you don't need to know the wire colours, you just plug it in.

Hi,

Just bought a sony DAB unit from Halfrauds, it was actually cheaper than buying online by about 15 quid, but the lead I was told to buy wasn't the PC99 one, it was the PC2-05-4 one. There is also a big difference in price too. Not sure which one to buy now...........................:confused:
 
Instead of starting a new topic I thought I would follow on from this one.

Members have said that I need the PC99-X30 lead from autoleads, in order for the steering wheel controls to work. But on the autoleads website is shows PC99-X32 as the lead from a 2003 freelander (52 Plate).

Are they different, or both the same, as like to get the correct one.

Autoleads then says that I will require to use a PC99 Patch lead, which I am guessing is designed for the stereo that I am installing. I have both a Sony or Alpine unit that I have yet to decide to fit, so guess I have to deicde first then get the correct lead.

I have seen this on ebay, which let you choose which patch lead you want, so that is handy I guess.

I recently used a PC9 X32 (with Alpine lead) on mine but I double checked I had the BMW round pins before I bought it.

Mine is a 2001MY, 02 plate pre facelift.
 
Yeah, if it's BMW the round pin plug will be part of the cars loom - big square connector which slides apart then the plug can be pulled out. Then a lead goes between there and the stereo.

I should say these work on my car, but there seems to be a few changes to the loom around this time - probably due to the changes of ownership at LR? There doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule for what leads to use by year. YMMV.
