Have some steering wander, was better before new box.. 1990 90
Got new power steering box, new track rod ends new joints on all the steering in fact including the column.
Swivels ok no play
Steering a bit vague though, mot man went through it and all sound, tyre pressures even at 30 psi

Any hints

thanks

Mine was wandery, turned out my new Brit part PAS pump was dodgy (failed completely in the end) new pump on and steering is spot on again.

new ones arent allways set up correctly ive had to adjust a few for garages

Just this minute ordered a new genuine p/s pump off ebay as mine seems to intermitantly seize up, new belt fitted and still does it so hopefully this and another new belt should sort it :D

Are all your bushes ok? I was amazed at how much of a difference this made when I renewed all mine, the old ones didnt even seem too bad but it was like driving a different car after.

Take a look at the panhard bushes for play as previously said worn bushes have a huge effect on the steering

Panhard rod bushes were the culprit on mine- if they're worn the first few degrees of movement will push the axle sideways without steering. Equally, with the wheel straight the axle can move which will steer the wheels slightly. Easy enough to change them and I did the whole front end while I had use of a press.

All good advice thanks

Thing is that it is all the same axle and steering parts that were on before.. Except for new steering box and all new track rod ends drag link end and new drop arm and joint and new uj s on the steering column.

It was fine before so swivels ok, no wear in anything, going to do tracking and bsee where it takes me

Steering not good, take your eyes off the road and it goes where it wants to without moving the steering

Checking tracking a good idea and while you are at it check those swivel pre loads, it's worth it. Also check rear axle bushes, wear here can result in rear axle steer.

Have you tried adjusting the play in the box?

I had to adjust mine (less than 2 years old) for MOT last year. get box central, then loosen the nut at the top and adjust with an allen key then nip nut up again.

Sorted it...
Used an old bolt to clamp top u/j on steering column and the threads had stripped.. left play in it so new bolt and all is well again :)
